The last day of May, and wouldn't you know it, we got more rain and clouds.  This Spring has been one of the worst that I can recall, so I'm really hoping that Summer will bring lots of sunshine.  With not a lot of options today, I headed out to the back yard to take some pics of some of the rain-drenched plant life.

I worked with my dad for two days on this pond/waterfall in the back yard, as they are preparing for the garden tour at the end of June.  Here's the result.  Not bad for an amateur, right?  (I'm referring to myself, not my dad, of course).

Finally a day of sun!  Wow, it was great to feel some warm weather ...
Went outside to help my dad re-design and re-build the pond in the back yard.  Then, did some painting around the garden.  Monica and Jack came for a visit and brought a tasty venison dinner.  We rounded out the day with a rousing game of Michigan Rummy ... that was a few hours worth of entertainment, and a great way to spend a Sunday night as the rain moved in again.

Headed to the U.S. today and dad picked up a few items for the garden.  By the time we got home, we still hadn't taken a photo for today, so I thought I'd take a shot after the sun went down.  Mom and I decided to go in the hot tub since it wasn't raining - although it started as soon as we got out there.  Here's my mom enjoying the beautiful night in the hot tub... would've been even nicer with red wine in hand, though!

More rain and clouds today.  Feels like Autumn.  Took my Grandma Ketler to the doctor's office with my mom, then to VV for a browse around.  Then ate a smorgasbord Chinese lunch, although I could've passed on that - it wasn't delicious.  After dinner, took a quick stroll around Sardis Park while there was a brief glimpse of sunshine.  More ducks and geese.  That's it.  So, that's what I've got for you today:

Rain.  Rain.  And more rain.  Not sure when Summer will kick in, but the incessant rain and cold is becoming intolerable.  Regardless, I went outside into the yard to see what rain-drenched photo I could find. This poor statue boy was dripping rain off his chiseled features, so snapped a shot.

A day of recovery for Lisa and I after a late night of celebrating the Canucks victory.  I drove back to Chilliwack in the rain listening to some great tunes on the stereo.  It was Oprah's final show today, but missed it, so will have to watch it another time, I guess.  While watching the finale of American Idol, I noticed this squirrel who's been stealing the bird feed off the patio.  My cat is about three feet away and doesn't seem bothered by the squirrel.  She lies there and lets the squirrel take what it wants and doesn't move a muscle to stop it.  I'm disappointed in how lazy my cat actually is.

What a night of excitement ... drove out to Vancouver to meet up with Lisa before heading to the local Five Point pub to watch game 5 of the Canucks/Sharks series.  Brad, Iona and Cecilia all showed up, and the pub was on fire with energy as the Canucks tied it up with mere seconds left in the 3rd period.  Finally, into double overtime, Bieksa buries the puck from the blue line to take the win!  The pub erupted into cheers and suddenly everybody in the bar were our new best friends.  On to the Stanley Cup finals! Here's Lisa and I midway through the game ... in this photo, we were still waiting for the Canucks to tie it up:

Had quite a fun day today ... got up early and we met my Auntie Anne for breakfast.  Then, we headed to Fort Langley, where we found out that their annual May Day Parade was taking place.  We wandered around and browsed in their local shops, before heading for a drink and appetizers at the pub until Monica was done working.  Then, we went to Liquidation World and Value Village to waste a little time before we all headed to the IMAX to watch Pirates of the Caribbean in 3D.  Then, home to visit with my grandma and Auntie Anne for a little while ... great day!

Awoke to rain and clouds yet again.  Not the perfect day to go on a photo journey, so once again I headed over to the park to see what I could find.  Not much was happening, and since I've got to head back home to watch the noon playoff game and I'm hoping to go to a movie this afternoon, I had to settle for a simple duck picture.  Tried to at least make it an action shot:

Well, waited around most of the day for the "rapture" to happen ... I thought that with the end of the world coming today, there would be no point in trying to take a photo.  So, was I ever surprised when 6pm rolled around and everything was business as usual.  Kind of missed my prime opportunity to go take a photo, but did get some guitar practice time.  So, decided to post a pic of one of my most prized possessions, my Larrivee guitar:

Sometimes I manage to get more than one good photo, then it becomes difficult to choose.  I was going to use the picture of the watermelon and roll kuchen that we ate today - the first real sign of summer!  I also got a few beautiful pictures of turtles at the park today, but this baby duckling was just too cute to pass up.  When I saw this yellow duckling with his two brown brothers, it looked like he was asking them, "Why am I yellow?" Maybe I can catch those turtles the next time.  Lots of days of summer left!

Gorgeous sunshine today!  Mom, Karen and I went down to Birch Bay, Washington to see what ocean views we could capture with our cameras.  It was a little windy, but beautiful, nonetheless.  Unfortunately, the beach didn't have a lot to offer for photo opportunities, since the tide was out, but we did spot these two eagles WAY out at the end of the sandbars.  So, I slogged through seaweed waters and managed to capture a few shots of them...

Wasn't sure what photo opportunity would present itself today, so waited until evening, then wandered over to Sardis Park to see the ducklings and goslings.  Got some good shots of the goslings, but this duck was so colourful that I couldn't help but share it!  I'll have to go back for those ducklings another day.

Finally saw a little sunshine today, so mom and I jumped in the car and headed out to Cultus Lake to take some photos.  It was very peaceful.  I haven't been to Main Beach for many, many years, so was surprised to see all the new housing/cabin development along the beach.  Took a shot of the dock ...

A great day spent with my best friend, Lisa, in Vancouver.  Went for lunch at Burgoo and it was scrumptious.  We sat on the patio in the cold and windy May weather, pretending the heat lamps were sunshine.  We laughed ourselves to tears, as usual, as we indulged in a cold beer (or two).  Then, we watched a few episodes of "Damages", until we left to visit Brenda.  We wanted to give her the pictures and her birthday present from the other night.  Then, it was time for me to drive back to Chilliwack.  I was almost home, and saw a family of geese in a nearby park.  The goslings were so cute, but none of the pictures were as good as the park itself, so decided to go with this one.... I'll go back for the goslings another time!

After a wild night with friends, Sunday was spent in recovery.  Just a low energy day watching some TV and chatting with my best friend.  Later in the day, I walked to another friend's house to watch the first game of the third round of the hockey playoffs against the San Jose Sharks. (I'm hoping the Vancouver Canucks will take the Stanley Cup this year).  On my way over, there was a shower of cherry blossoms everywhere, and each time the wind blew, there would be another wave of pink petals falling everywhere. Unfortunately, I was never quite quick enough with my camera, but here's what the trees and sidewalk looked like:

One of my long time friends celebrated her 40th birthday party on Saturday.  It was so much fun to spend time with some friends I haven't seen in close to 20 years.  Had some hilarious moments with old friends and new!  We danced and drank and ate ... what an incredibly fun time!  Forty isn't so bad.

This is my friend, Brenda - it was her party and she looked fabulous:

Today my cousin took my mom, my aunt and I out on Harrison Lake in his boat.  We couldn't have asked for better conditions - the sun was shining, the lake was as smooth as glass, and there were no other boaters to be seen.  We made it up to Rainbow Falls where we took a very short walk to the falls to take some pictures.  Here's one that I took:

This photo is of "Candy Tuft" which is growing in my parents' yard.  It's beautiful when it's in full bloom.
They are preparing their entire yard for the annual Garden Tour that will take place in June.  This is the first year their gardens have been on the itinerary, so they are working to make sure everything looks fantastic.  I'm sure more pics of their incredible yard will be posted in the future.
